Internet of Things

Vuesol can help you securely integrate information between your equipment and devices, to empower your company with smart analytics-driven technology. The truly transformative use of IoT combines structured and unstructured data with advanced, and even cognitive, analytics, to deliver consumers or companies the data or insights to make informed decisions about their lives or businesses. The resulting data communications across devices allow users to conduct business, smarter.

What is Internet of Things?

Internet of Things, or IoT, is a term first coined in 1999, referring to the growing range of Internet-connected devices that collectively capture or generate an enormous amount of information every day, and that are individually able to communicate with other devices, networks, systems, and “things.” For consumers, these devices include mobile phones, sports wearables or gadgetry, home heating and air conditioning systems, appliances, and more. In an industrial setting, these devices and sensors can be found in manufacturing equipment, the supply chain and vehicle components. The devices must have an IP address and the ability to communicate with other devices or “things” in order to be considered part of the IoT.

The power of IoT

As more and more devices connect together to form the Internet of Things, the volume of data is expanding at an exponential rate. But, we can’t act on nearly 90 percent of the data generated from these connected devices. This is due, in part, to our limited ability to analyze the vast quantities of unstructured information we receive from IoT devices. Cognitive computing gives us the opportunity to make sense of IoT data such as images, video and text in a variety of languages. As the cognitive system “learns,” it can even make recommendations about your best course of action.

IoT for consumers

Consumer IoT incorporates household products with devices or electronics that are technologically smart and able to communicate with other devices, networks, systems and things. IoT can make life easier for all of us. Imagine if you had smart devices in your home, and how they could change your morning routine… Start by setting your smart alarm for 7am. Your clock connects to your coffee machine, so a cup of your favorite brew is ready for you. Your central heating system is also connected, so your home is warm when you wake up; and there’s plenty of hot water for your shower.

What does IoT mean for business?

As almost everything—from cars to crops to conveyor belts—becomes connected, IoT is changing the way businesses operate. By combining IoT data with advanced analytics, and even cognitive computing, business can extract valuable insights to improve virtually every aspect of their operations. For instance, in a connected building, data can be used to save energy and for predictive maintenance. Sensors on the production line can provide information that increases efficiency. In-store devices can help retailers improve the customer experience. And medical data from wearable devices can be used to save lives. IoT has the potential to transform your entire business. Vuesol can offer, through implementation of IoT technology to your organization, improvements in infrastructure and architecture, security, data, analytics, and services.
